The Radical Commons ("TRC," "we," "us," "our") is operated by The Radical Commons ASBL, a non-profit association (association sans but lucratif) registered in Belgium.

"The Radical Dispatches" (TRD) is TRC's community-built publication. "The Platform" means this website, its subdomains (including our shop), TRD, the Library, the Curated Picks, and any account, newsletter, or service we run under the TRC name.

By using the Platform you accept these Terms. If you disagree with them, please don't use it.

Section 02

What the Platform is

TRC is a living, interdisciplinary archive of radical knowledge. The Library and the Curated Picks are free, with no paywall and no membership gate. That commitment is permanent. Governance of TRC stays with TRC: we decide what the archive contains, how it is organized, and who answers for it.

Some features need an account (for example submitting work, saving, or supporting TRC). Some features involve a payment (donations, memberships, shop items). Those are described below.

Section 03

Using the Platform

You may read, share links to, and engage with the Platform for personal, educational, activist, and other non-commercial purposes.

You agree not to:

break the law or use the Platform to help anyone else do so;
harass, threaten, dox, or incite violence or hatred against any person or group;
upload malware, scrape the Platform at a scale that harms its operation, or try to gain access to systems or accounts that aren't yours;
impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation;
submit content you don't have the right to submit;
use TRC content to train commercial AI systems or to build commercial datasets without our written permission.

We may suspend or remove access, content, or accounts that breach these Terms. Where reasonable we will tell you why.

Section 04

Accounts

You can create an account directly or sign in through Google, Facebook, or Keycloak. You are responsible for keeping your login secure and for what happens under your account. Give us accurate information and tell us if you suspect unauthorized access.

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account, to make a purchase, or to donate. Younger readers are welcome to read the free parts of the Platform.

You can delete your account at any time (see the Privacy Policy). We can close an account that breaches these Terms or stays inactive for a long period, after notice where possible.

Section 05

Contributions and submissions

You can submit work to TRD, propose items to the Library, or send other material ("Contributions"). We treat Contributions as follows.

You keep your rights. You remain the author and copyright holder of your Contribution. Nothing here transfers ownership to us.

What you grant us. By submitting, you give TRC a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to publish, reproduce, display, distribute, archive, translate for accessibility, and promote the Contribution, in the Platform, in TRD in digital and print form, and in related materials such as our newsletter, social media, events, and documentaries about TRC. You can ask us, in writing, for the terms of any specific publication to be agreed differently. Where an issue is already printed or distributed, we can't recall copies already in circulation, but we will remove the work from future editions and from the Platform on request, unless it has become part of a collective work that cannot reasonably be separated, in which case we will talk with you.

Credit. We credit you as you ask (name, pseudonym, or anonymous), where the format allows.

Your promises. You confirm that the Contribution is yours or that you have permission to submit it, that it doesn't infringe anyone's copyright, privacy, image, or other rights, and that every person identifiable in it has consented where the law requires consent. If your work includes testimony or images from communities or individuals, you confirm you have their agreement to share it.

Editorial independence. TRC's editors decide what is published, and can edit for length, clarity, and safety, in agreement with you for anything that changes meaning. A submission is not a promise of publication. We don't pay for Contributions unless we agreed that in writing beforehand.

Safety. If you are writing about a place or situation where being identified would put you or others at risk, tell us. We can publish under a pseudonym and remove metadata.

Section 06

Third-party works in the Library

The Library and the Curated Picks reference and sometimes host excerpts of works by authors, publishers, and organizations, shared with their permission or under applicable exceptions. Those works remain the property of their respective rights holders. Their inclusion doesn't mean we own them, and you shouldn't reuse them beyond what the law or the rights holder allows.

If you hold rights in something on the Platform and believe it shouldn't be there, write to hello@theradicalcommons.com with the work, where it appears, and your claim. We review notices promptly and remove or restrict access where the claim is valid.

Section 07

Our content and intellectual property

TRC's original materials (design, text, identity, code, the structure and curation of the archive) are owned by TRC or its contributors and are protected by copyright and related rights. Unless a specific item says otherwise, you may share links, quote short extracts with attribution, and use content for personal and non-commercial educational purposes. Any other reuse needs our written permission.

The names "The Radical Commons" and "The Radical Dispatches," and our logos, may not be used in a way that suggests endorsement without our consent.

Section 08

Donations and support

You can support TRC with donations, which are processed by Stripe. Donations are voluntary gifts to the ASBL and fund its activities. They don't buy editorial influence, a say in TRC's governance, or access to anything we keep free.

Unless the law says otherwise, donations are not refundable. If you gave by mistake or were charged twice, write to us within [30] days and we will fix it. [Tax-deductibility: TRC does not currently issue tax certificates. Replace this sentence if that changes.]

Funding from institutions, foundations, or individuals never gives them editorial control over TRC.

Section 09

The TRC shop

Seller. The Radical Commons ASBL, details in Section 01.

Products and prices. Items are described on their product page. Prices are shown in [EUR] and include VAT where it applies. Shipping costs are shown before you pay. Posters are produced in batches and may be limited in number.

Order and payment. An order is accepted when we confirm it by email. Payment is processed by Stripe on its hosted checkout page. We never see or store your full card details.

Shipping. We ship worldwide. Delivery estimates are indicative. Import duties, taxes, and customs fees outside the EU are the buyer's responsibility and are not included in our prices. If a parcel cannot be delivered because of an incomplete address, refusal, or unpaid customs charges, we may charge for re-shipping or refund the item minus costs.

Right of withdrawal (consumers). If you are a consumer in the EU, you have 14 days from receiving your goods to withdraw from the purchase without giving a reason. Tell us by email at hello@theradicalcommons.com with your order number (you may use the model withdrawal form of Belgian law if you wish). Send the item back within 14 days of telling us. You pay the cost of returning it unless we agreed otherwise. We refund the price and the standard delivery cost within 14 days of receiving the item back (or proof you sent it). The item must be returned in the condition you received it. We aren't liable for a reduction in value caused by handling beyond what is needed to check the item.

Defects and damage. Items are covered by the legal guarantee of conformity under Belgian law (two years for consumers). If a poster arrives damaged or isn't what we described, contact us with a photo within [14] days and we will replace or refund it. Tubes and packaging are designed to protect posters in transit, but if a carrier loses a parcel we will work with you on a reshipment or refund.

Non-EU buyers. Your local mandatory consumer rights remain intact.

Section 10

Newsletter and communications

We send the newsletter only if you subscribe. Every message includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately. We send service messages (order confirmations, account security) regardless of newsletter status, because they're necessary to the service you asked for.

Section 11

Links and third-party services

The Platform links to other sites and services. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content or practices. Payments run through Stripe, and sign-in through Google, Facebook, or Keycloak sends you briefly to those providers, which apply their own terms and policies.

Section 12

Availability and changes to the Platform

We work to keep the Platform running and accurate, but it is provided "as is." We can change, suspend, or discontinue features, or correct errors, at any time. We don't guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access.

Section 13

Editorial position

TRC publishes radical, anti-colonial, and politically committed work. Views expressed in the Library, Curated Picks, and TRD belong to their authors and curators and don't necessarily represent every member of TRC. Inclusion in the archive is an editorial act, not a legal or factual endorsement of every statement.

Section 14

Privacy and cookies

How we handle your personal data is set out in our Privacy Policy, and how we use cookies in our Cookie Policy. Both form part of these Terms.

Section 15

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. We will post the new version here with a new effective date, and for material changes affecting your rights we will notify registered users by email or on the Platform. If you keep using the Platform after the effective date, you accept the update. If you disagree, you can close your account.

Section 16

Governing law, disputes, and complaints

These Terms are governed by Belgian law. If a dispute arises, please write to us first at hello@theradicalcommons.com so we can try to settle it directly.

If you are a consumer, you may bring a claim before the courts of your place of residence, and mandatory consumer protections of your country apply regardless of this clause. You can also use the Belgian Consumer Mediation Service (Service de médiation pour le consommateur / Consumentenombudsdienst, www.mediationconsommateur.be). Otherwise, the courts of Brussels have exclusive jurisdiction.

Section 17

General

If any part of these Terms is held invalid, the rest stays in force. Our not enforcing a clause doesn't waive it. You can't transfer your rights under these Terms without our consent. These Terms, with the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, are the whole agreement between you and TRC about the Platform.
